My favourite way to add style and elegance to a kitchen is the addition of pendant lights. Pendants not only provide lighting for your eating and cooking needs but also pose as a stylish add-on. The biggest problem is that there are so many options! In this blog, I will let you in on my steps to help you pick the perfect pendant for your kitchen island.

Getting to know your space

My first step is to always analyze the space beforehand, take in ceiling measurements, size, and layout of your kitchen island, and consider what you will be using the space for. Do you need bright LED lighting to focus or warm, ambient lighting to create a cozy atmosphere? Knowing what your space needs will make it much easier to select your lights.

How to pick the right size

Sizing is also crucial when selecting pendant lights! The size and use of your kitchen island will ultimately depend on the size of the pendants. A great tip is to choose pendants that are approximately ⅔ to ¾ the width of your island. This also depends on the height of the ceiling in relation to your island, lighting will change depending on how close or far the pendant sits from the surface.

Picking your pendants

It is always smart to have an idea of the theme or style you are looking for. It can become tough to pick as pendants come in a wide range of styles. Align the style of your pendant lights with the overall aesthetic of your kitchen. If you have a contemporary kitchen, consider clean and minimalist designs. If you have a traditional kitchen, consider warm broad pendants. Making sure your themes match will allow for a perfectly blended space.

You should also consider the material of your pendants when shopping. Take in all existing materials in the architecture of your kitchen such as floors, walls, cabinets, and countertops. For instance, if you have a modern kitchen, some brushed pendants with nickel or chrome finishes would be a beautiful addition.
